Regionalization was a big conversation today!

Yesterday, the General Conference began with the Episcopal Address by Bishop Holston from South Carolina. During his address, Bishop Holston shared a moving video to remind us of what has happened both in the church and the world since General Conference last met in 2016.

We also heard the Young People’s Address which was incredible! We listened to reports on the regionalization of the church, the development of a “General Book of Disciple” for the worldwide church, and the overall financial state of the church.

Regionalization is a major focus of this General Conference. Today, the debate regarding regionalization was respectful and thoughtful. As I looked around, people were bowing their heads in prayer as the vote was taking place to move forward with specific aspects of regionalization. When they announced the outcome of the vote with a strong 78.13% in support, I sensed a collective sigh of relief. It feels like our beloved United Methodist Church is moving forward in significant ways.
