John Wesley said, “The world is my parish.” As part of that Wesleyan tradition, we know there is a need around the world to spread hope and the gospel. We also know that there are people in our community who need our love and support. This city needs our help. With this realization, “Love in the 605” was born.”

Our local impact strategy focuses on partnerships with local organizations that strive to raise our brothers and sisters in Sioux Falls. Through these combined efforts, we will have the opportunity to help local schools, non-profit organizations, and other local outreach initiatives in Sioux Falls and the surrounding “605” area. We will provide financial support and volunteer assistance to lift our city and shine a light in the darkness that has prevented others from seeing God’s goodness.

We pray that First Church will be an integral partner in helping our children and those in need in our community to see and experience Christ's love truly.

Every Sunday at First Church, we have dedicated teams of volunteers who help make our Sunday services happen, from preparing tech needs before each service to greeters & ushers welcoming family and visitors to behind-the-scenes hospitality workers. Our volunteers are a vital part of what we do.

Here are a few volunteer team opportunities.

Ushers & Greeters: Welcome guests as soon as they arrive, answer any questions people might have, and help find the best seats available.

Productions: Help create an atmosphere where people can experience the presence of God. Operate cameras, lights, screens, and sound to support the presented Gospel. No experience is required.

Kids & Youth: Be a part of shaping the next generation by engaging kids and youth with the Gospel to help them build their faith. Work directly with kids and youth or work behind the scenes to provide the best experience possible for kids and parents.

First Friends: Visit an older friend at least once a month to bring cheer and care from their church family. 

Care First Team: Guide the care of the congregation, visitors, and guests of First United Methodist Church.

Events Team: Plan and implement special events for the First Church community and serve other outreach/service events.
