Ecumenical Day!

Happy Tuesday! Today, we began our day celebrating our many ecumenical partnerships with other denominations during our morning worship service. Rev. Dr. Jerry Pillay, the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, was the featured preacher. Throughout his message, he emphasized the importance of Christian unity. In a time when the world is becoming increasingly more fragmented and polarized, it is encouraging to see various denominations working together to share our Christian witness with the world.

After worship, plenary sessions began. Here are a few actions taken by the General Conference today.

These petitions passed including:

·       The United Methodist Church will enjoy full communion with the Episcopalian Church.

·       We have committed $5 million dollars of funding for Africa University over the next quadrennium.

·       We approved the General Church apportionment rate of 2.6% for the next two years.
